The Tiny Snail's Path of Patience

On a sunny morning, a tiny snail named Calm woke up on a soft green leaf. He stretched his neck and looked at the bright forest. Today was the day of the Big Forest Picnic at the Old Oak Tree. Calm was so excited! He set off with a happy heart. Slide, glide, and smile—that was his way.

Suddenly, a rabbit named Dash hopped over with a mighty Boing! Dash was very fast and very fuzzy. Hello, Calm! Dash chirped. The picnic is starting soon. We must hurry or we'll miss the delicious clover honey! Calm nodded and moved as fast as his little body could, but Dash was already three hops ahead.

A squirrel came down from the high branches. Her name was Flora. Wait for me! Flora called out. She was very agile and loved to climb. The sun is moving across the sky, Calm! We should run to find the best spot under the tree. Calm smiled at his friend. I'm coming, he said softly.

Dash and Flora were so fast! They raced each other to the next big mushroom. They zigzagged around the ferns and zoomed over the twigs. They stopped and looked back to wait for their little friend. Come on, Calm! they called together. They were very patient, but they really loved to move fast.

Calm was moving slowly, but he wasn't sad. Because he moved slowly, he saw things his friends missed. He stopped at a single dewdrop hanging from a blade of grass. Inside the dewdrop, he saw the whole forest and a tiny rainbow. How beautiful, Calm whispered.

Dash hopped back to see why Calm had stopped. What are you looking at, Calm? he asked, twitching his nose. When Dash looked closely, he saw the tiny rainbow too. Wow, said Dash, sitting quietly. I never noticed this because I was hopping so fast.

A little further down the path, Calm found a very smooth, shiny purple stone under a leaf. He called out to Flora. Look at this treasure, Flora! Flora glided down from a branch. How smooth it is! she said, stroking the stone. Usually, I just run over these stones without looking.

Dash and Flora looked at each other, then at Calm. They realized that Calm’s slowness let him see all the magic of the forest. Do you want to run ahead? Calm asked kindly. The picnic is waiting. Dash shook his head, and Flora swished her tail. No, they said. We want to see the forest with you.

The three friends traveled the rest of the way together. Calm led the way, showing them the softest moss and the shadows dancing on the ground. Dash found he enjoyed the gentle pace. It's like the forest is telling a story, Dash whispered, taking a slow step.

Flora followed close behind, her eyes wide with curiosity. Every few steps, she would stop to look at a leaf or a beetle. When they finally reached the clearing, the Big Oak Tree stood tall and proud. We made it, Flora cheered softly, looking at the giant tree.

Dash thought for a moment. I've passed this way a thousand times, but I had never seen this beautiful stone, he smiled calmly. It was because Dash used to run so fast. Sometimes slowing down allows us to see the world more clearly.

Flora came very close to Calm. Do you know what, Calm? Moving at your speed is actually very peaceful. There are so many details around us, she said, and began to move beside him, observing the surroundings slowly.

Dash wasn't hopping anymore, either. He began to walk with heavy, steady steps beside Flora. It’s okay even if we reach the picnic a little later. What matters is discovering this beautiful path together, he said to his friend.

Finally, they reached the Big Oak Tree. The sun was about to set, and the sky was painted orange. Calm and Dash took the food out of their baskets and prepared for a wonderful picnic together. The picnic was just beginning, and they were right on time.

That evening, before Calm retreated into his shell, he thanked his friends. Flora and Dash had learned this; everyone's path and speed are different, and this is very valuable. The garden smelled more beautiful than ever that night under the twinkling stars.
