What ages are the animal books for?

There are longer classic retellings for ages 10-12 here too, which makes the page handy for families with children of different ages and for teachers with mixed groups.

Young children connect quickly with animal characters. A frog afraid of a big lake or a rabbit who loses his carrots lets them look at their own worries from a safe distance. For older readers, animal characters make heavier themes like loyalty, betrayal and sacrifice easier to discuss.
