Total 14 books Page 1 of 2

About this category

The Adventure shelf gathers every book on the site where children follow an old map, a forgotten diary or a dark lighthouse to see where it leads. Almost all of the 14 books are written for ages 10-12, with 5-7 minute audio narration. Every one is free to read in the browser, listen to, or download as a PDF.

What ages are these adventure books for?
13 of the 14 books are for ages 10-12, roughly 5th to 7th grade. Emma's Big Adventure is a much shorter walk-and-discover story for ages 7-9, and strong 9-year-old readers can follow the longer ones with the narration on.
How is this page different from the Adventure genre page?
This page is a browsing shelf of every book tagged adventure, and it leans toward longer middle-grade journeys. The Adventure genre page groups stories by type and includes more options for younger children.
How long does an adventure book take to read?
Narration runs about 5 to 7 minutes for most books. A child reading silently should allow 10 to 15 minutes, which is enough to finish a story in one sitting.
Are any of the stories scary?
There is fog, a dark cave and a stormy crossing, but no violence and no real villains in most of them. The friends get past each obstacle by measuring, observing and working together, and the treasure is usually knowledge or a fixed machine rather than gold.
How can teachers use these books in class?
The routes, maps and forks in the road make good discussion material. Ask students to sketch the journey on a map, or to write which path they would have chosen and why.
Can I print these books?
Yes. Use the Download PDF button on any book page to save the whole book or just the pages you need.
