The Village Above the Clouds

Twelve-year-old Oliver was a boy who was always curious about what lay beyond the horizon. One day, he decided to climb to the summit of the Never-Ending Mountain behind his village. As he passed through the mists, he found a narrow, silver-glimmering path hidden among the rocks. With his heart beating with excitement, he followed this path and reached a mysterious place right above the clouds where the wind sang songs.

At the end of the path, Oliver's eyes widened in wonder. This was Skyvale Village, built upon cotton-white clouds, where the roofs of the houses shimmered in the colors of the rainbow. However, there was a strange silence in the village. Not a single sound of a child nor the noise of a working machine could be heard in the streets. Everyone looked sad, staring at the giant, motionless blades in the sky.

When Oliver went down to the village square, he stood at the base of a giant wind turbine. The blades were so large that their shadow covered the entire square. The rusted and motionless state of the turbine explained why the village was so silent. Oliver asked himself Why aren't these machines turning? and began to examine the structure of the machinery.

Just then, Uncle Arthur appeared beside him, white-haired and holding a greasy wrench. This wind used to give our village both light and warmth, Uncle Arthur said with a sigh. But the mechanism is stuck in such a place that no matter how hard we try, we can't make it turn. Knowledge alone is not enough, son; sometimes an obstacle we cannot see stops everything.

Oliver examined the massive gears that Uncle Arthur pointed out. Maybe the problem isn't just applying force, Oliver said. The balance in the system might be broken. At that moment, he noticed that the lights in the village had faded significantly, and the air was getting colder as evening approached. If the village's energy ran out, this life above the clouds could be in danger.

Oliver began looking for help to climb the turbine tower. During his search, he met a girl named Gale, who stood out for her quick movements and agility. Gale was the village's best climber. If we know what we're looking for, I can go all the way to the top, Gale said bravely. Oliver and Gale decided to become a team to solve the problem.

While Gale climbed up, Oliver inspected the connection points of the mechanism from below with a flashlight. Suddenly, he saw frozen cloud crystals wedged between the main gears. That's it! Oliver shouted. Heavy mist crystals have frozen the gears! The wind cannot turn the blades without cleaning them. He had found the problem, but cleaning the crystals was not something he could do alone.

Oliver stood on a chest in the village square and called out to the villagers. One person cannot turn the gears, but if we all come together, we can melt the crystals! he said. Everyone had a different talent. Some could carry hot water, some could use solar mirrors, and some could lubricate the mechanism. Oliver explained his plan in a way that everyone could understand.

The work began. Uncle Arthur and Oliver took control of the main shaft at the base of the turbine. While Uncle Arthur moved the heavy parts, Oliver told him which screws to loosen. The harmony between them allowed the complex system to slowly loosen up. We're doing great, Uncle Arthur said, admiring Oliver's intelligence.

Up above, Gale and the other young climbers were cleaning the ice that had accumulated on the blades. Gale reached out to the farthest tip of a blade with a rope and broke the crystals one by one. The villagers below used mirrors to reflect sunlight onto the points where Gale was working, making the ice melt faster.

Everyone's strength was needed for the large balance lever, the final part of the system. When Gale gave the signal from above, Uncle Arthur turned the wrench. The villagers together began to pull the giant ropes. Oliver kept the tempo so everyone would move at the same time. One, two, three!

Suddenly, a deep creak was heard, followed by the sound of a strong wind. The blades began to turn slowly. As the blades turned, all the crystal lamps in the village began to glow with a bright, golden light. As the sun set, Skyvale Village attained the brightest light in its history. Oliver and Uncle Arthur watched the turning blades, smiling at each other. We achieved it together, Oliver said proudly.
