Rosie the little rabbit stood in front of a vast sunflower field with her soft fur and curious eyes. It was the first time she had seen so many bright yellow flowers all at once. The sky was deep blue, and the fresh scent of earth filled the air.

Rosie hopped slowly into the heart of the field. When she looked up, she noticed that all the giant sunflowers were facing the same way—straight toward the bright sun. “They are all looking at the same thing!” she whispered to herself.

Rosie wondered why these huge flowers always followed the sun. It was so interesting to watch them. She sat down at the base of the tallest sunflower and gazed up at the sky. The flowers seemed to be whispering silent secrets to the sun.

The next morning, Rosie ran back to the field very early. The sun was just rising over the horizon. As the sun climbed higher, the yellow colors of the field began to sparkle and shine even more. Everything looked fresh and vibrant in the morning light.

As the sun rose higher, Rosie noticed that the field looked even brighter. But she also noticed something changing on the ground. There were long, dark shapes following her. “Look at that!” she cried, trying to touch her own shadow with her paw.

In the afternoon, Rosie saw that the direction of the shadows had changed. The long shapes that were on the right in the morning were now stretching to the left. Just then, her best friend Pip the Squirrel arrived, jumping through the grass with his fluffy tail.

Rosie excitedly showed her friend how the shadows had moved. Pip twitched his nose in wonder. The two friends began to play a little game, jumping over the long shadows of the sunflowers and trying to catch each other's tails.

Rosie wanted to show Pip exactly how much the shadows moved. She hopped over to a large, grey stone. She took a small wooden stick and pushed it into the ground right where the stone's shadow ended. “Let's see what happens,” she said.

After playing for a while, Pip hopped back to the stone to check on the stick. He squeaked in surprise and called out to Rosie. “Rosie, come look! The shadow isn't touching the stick anymore. It has moved far away!”

Rosie smiled and explained her discovery. “The sun moves across the sky all day long,” she said. “And as the sun moves, it pushes the shadows to new places!” Pip listened to his friend, amazed by this secret of the field.

When evening came, the sky turned beautiful shades of orange, pink, and purple. Rosie and Pip said goodbye to the sunflowers, which were now starting to bow their heads. The peaceful feeling of the field made them both very happy.

As Rosie hopped slowly back to her home, she looked back at the field one last time. She knew that when the sun rose tomorrow, the shadows would start their dance all over again. Rosie fell asleep, happy to know nature’s beautiful secret.
