Nutty and the Hidden Acorn
It was a crisp autumn morning in the vibrant forest. Nutty, a little squirrel with a very busy tail, found his favorite acorn. It was the biggest and shiniest one he had ever seen! To keep it safe for later, Nutty carefully hid the acorn under a large, golden leaf on the ground.
“There! Now nobody will find it,” Nutty said with a nod. Just then, his friend Squeak called out from the trees. Nutty forgot all about his snack and scampered up a trunk to play a fun game of tag in the high branches.
The sun began to dip low in the sky, turning the forest floor into a world of long shadows. Nutty’s tummy gave a little rumble. He said goodbye to Squeak and hopped back down to the ground. “Time for my delicious acorn!” he thought happily.
Nutty reached the spot where he thought he had been, but he stopped suddenly. There were hundreds of yellow leaves everywhere! He lifted one leaf, then another, and another. But he couldn't find the acorn's spot. Everything looked exactly the same.
Nutty sat down on a mossy grey rock and thought for a bit. He closed his eyes and tried to remember exactly what he saw when he hid his treasure. “Where was I standing?” he whispered to himself.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up! He remembered which tree was next to him when he hid the acorn. It wasn't just any tree; it was a very thick, old oak tree with green moss growing on its bark. “That's it!” he cried.
Nutty scurried over to the giant tree as fast as his little legs could carry him. He patted the rough bark and looked at the roots. He knew he was in the right place because the tree felt like an old friend.
As he looked closer at the ground, he noticed something special. Right between two big roots, there was a very big leaf that was curled at the edges. It was the same leaf he had used earlier!
With a beating heart, Nutty reached out and gently lifted the big leaf. And there it was! The acorn was under the leaf, looking just as shiny and perfect as he remembered. It hadn't moved an inch.
“I found you!” Nutty cheered. He joyfully took his acorn out from its hiding spot and held it tight. His friend Squeak hopped down to see what the fuss was about and gave Nutty a high-five with his tiny paw.
Nutty realized that the forest was a very big place. He learned that he could leave signs, like a special stone or a pile of twigs, to help remember where he hid something important. “Next time, I'll use a marker,” he decided wisely.
Nutty didn't want to lose his snack again. This time, he put his acorn in a safe place inside a cozy hollow high up in a tree where the wind couldn't blow it away. Now he could sleep soundly, knowing exactly where his treasure was hidden.
