One morning, as the sun shone gently over the forest, a little panda named Bamboo was wandering through the bamboo trees. Suddenly, he saw a shimmer right at his feet. When he leaned over to look, he found a bright blue stone sparkling on the ground. It was the shiniest thing he had ever seen.

Just as Bamboo picked up the blue stone, he noticed more sparkles nearby. Yellow, pink, and orange stones were hidden among the bushes. It was as if each one was winking at him, saying, “Look at me too!” Bamboo’s eyes sparkled with joy.

“These are wonderful!” Bamboo said. He wanted to collect them all, take them home, and put them right by his bed. Bamboo started gathering all the colorful stones in his arms. He held them tightly, not wanting to share them with anyone.

Just as Bamboo turned to leave, he paused. He looked at the stones in his arms and then at the tall, old trees around him. “These stones look so beautiful here in the woods,” he thought. They were like the forest's tiny windows. Was it right to take them away?

Suddenly, a sound came from the bushes. It was Bamboo's best friend, Lily. Lily walked softly toward him, having noticed the sparkles in his hands from a distance. She was curious to see what her friend had found.

When Lily reached Bamboo, they both knelt on the ground. Bamboo showed Lily the treasure in his palms. Together, they began to examine the stones carefully. Under the sunlight, the stones changed colors like a rainbow.

“Look, Lily, this one is shaped like a star!” Bamboo said, pointing to a purple stone. Lily picked up a round, orange stone. Each stone had its own unique shape and texture; some were smooth, while others had sharp edges.

Lily said in a soft voice, “Bamboo, these stones seem happier lying on this moss.” Lily slowly placed one of the most beautiful stones back where she found it, on top of a soft, gray rock. The stone began to glow brightly in the sunlight once more.

Bamboo stopped for a moment and realized Lily was right. Just because something was very beautiful didn't mean he had to take it home. Bamboo slowly placed the very last stone from his arms back onto the earth. His hands were empty now, but he felt very peaceful.

In their rightful place, under the dancing shadows of the trees and the golden sun, the stones looked much more alive. Bamboo and Lily stood up to watch the view. With these little jewels scattered about, the forest looked like a fairy tale land.

Lily touched Bamboo’s shoulder gently. “Leaving nature exactly as it is is the best way to protect a treasure,” she said. Bamboo understood now; the real treasure wasn't owning the stones, but being able to see their beauty in the wild.

As the sun began to set, the two friends left the forest. Bamboo’s pockets were empty, but his heart was full of joy. He looked back and waved goodbye to the sparkles. He headed home with the happiness of being a true protector of the forest.
