The rain had just stopped. The pond looked greener and fresher than ever. Little frog Hoppy hopped onto a wet lily pad and took a deep breath. The air smelled like fresh, damp earth.

As Hoppy looked around, he noticed a giant water drop hanging from the tip of a large sycamore leaf. This drop was brighter and bigger than any he had ever seen. It sparkled just like a diamond.

Hoppy decided to call this shining drop “Bouncy.” Bouncy swayed gently on the edge of the leaf, as if saying “Hello!” to Hoppy. To get a closer look, Hoppy moved slowly toward the edge of his lily pad.

“I wonder what happens if I touch it?” Hoppy thought. He gently reached out and touched Bouncy with the tip of his finger. The drop trembled, stretched, and suddenly let go of the leaf. Hoppy held his breath in excitement.

Bouncy soared through the air and fell into a small puddle below—Splash! Circular ripples spread out across the surface of the water. Hoppy was delighted to watch the little dance Bouncy had created.

Just then, Hoppy’s brother Skip came over. “What are you looking at so closely?” Skip asked. Hoppy excitedly told him all about how Bouncy had gone “Splash!” into the water.

Other drops began to fall from the surrounding leaves. “Pit, pat, pit!” Each falling drop started a new song in the water. Skip loved watching these little water travelers sliding down from the leaves.

The two brothers decided to play a game. They tried to guess which drop would fall first. Hoppy chose a leaf on the right, and Skip chose a leaf on the left. Nature was so much fun!

Suddenly, the gray clouds in the sky drifted away, and the bright sun showed its face. The warmth of the sun began to heat up the pond. Hoppy felt the sweet warmth on his back.

As the sun rose higher, something interesting happened. The tiny drops on the leaves began to get smaller and smaller. Skip asked in surprise, “Look, where are the drops going?”

Hoppy and Skip realized that the drops were slowly evaporating and heading up toward the sky. Bouncy and his friends had gone to play hide-and-seek with the sun. The little miracles of the pond were changing every moment.

Hoppy understood how important it was to discover the small events in nature. Even a single water drop had shown him a whole world of wonder. “Tomorrow it will rain again, and we will meet new drops,” Hoppy said happily.
