On a bright, sunny morning, Lily the rabbit was hopping through the deep green forest. Suddenly, she stopped and wiggled her nose. She heard a beautiful sound she had never heard before. It went “gurgle-gurgle, swish-swish.”

“What is that lovely music?” Lily wondered. She felt a little flutter of excitement in her heart. She began to follow the sound, pushing her way through the soft, thick bushes and tall grass.

When she stepped through the bushes, she saw something wonderful! A clear, sparkling stream was winding its way through the trees. The water looked like shiny silver dancing under the golden sun.

Lily sat down by the water’s edge. She noticed that the stream made different sounds as it moved. In some places, it went “whisper-whisper,” and in others, it went “tap-tap” against the pebbles. The stream was telling a story in its own language.

“I wonder if I can join the music,” Lily thought. She reached out and found a smooth, flat stone in the water. Very gently, she used her paw to push the stone just a little bit to the side.

As the stone moved, the water had to squeeze through a smaller space. Suddenly, it began to flow much faster! The sound changed from a soft “gurgle” to a loud, busy “splash!” Lily jumped back in surprise at her discovery.

Just then, Daisy the squirrel hopped down from a nearby oak tree. “Hi, Lily!” Daisy chirped happily. “What are you doing? I heard such a loud, happy song coming from the water!”

Lily and Daisy sat side by side on the soft bank. They listened to the stream together. They noticed how the water sang a different song every time it hit a new rock or a fallen twig.

They walked to a part where the stream was very shallow and the bottom was covered in soft sand. Here, the water moved very slowly. It made a tiny, quiet “shhh-shhh” sound. “It’s so peaceful here,” Daisy whispered.

Then, they skipped over to a place where big, pointy rocks stood in the way. The water crashed against them with a loud “clatter-clank!” It was full of energy and very noisy.

Lily explained what she had learned. “See, Daisy? When the water moves fast or hits a rock, the music changes. The stones and the water are playing a song together!” Daisy closed her eyes to hear the different notes.

The two friends lay down in the soft, green grass as the sun began to set. The stream’s song sounded like a gentle lullaby. They closed their eyes, feeling happy and calm as they listened to the music of the forest.
