The sun was shining over the forest like a giant golden orange. It was so hot that even the leaves were starting to curl. Little Benny the Elephant walked happily toward the riverbank. The fresh grass felt soft under his feet. When Benny smelled the cool water, he flapped his ears with joy.

Benny dipped his long trunk into the cool river. “Slurp!” He sucked up the water. Then, he lifted his trunk high and sprayed it into the air. The water droplets danced in the sunlight, sparkling like tiny diamonds. Benny was very happy under his own little rain shower.

Suddenly, Skip the Rabbit hopped out from the bushes. Skip had been jumping so much that he was very hot. “Benny, what a beautiful fountain!” Skip cried. When Benny saw his friend, he turned his trunk and gently misted him. Skip began to hop with joy as the cool drops landed on him.

A small sound of wings came from the sky. Pip the Bird landed tiredly on a branch. “Oh, a little coolness would be so nice!” Pip chirped. Benny squeezed the end of his trunk to turn the water into a fine cloud of mist. Pip flapped her wings happily as she flew through the refreshing mist.

Then, Shellie the Turtle appeared slowly from between the river rocks. Shellie had tucked herself into her shell because she couldn't stand the heat. Benny walked right over to her. “Come on, Shellie, let me refresh you!” he said. Shellie peeked her head out and smiled at Benny’s gentle fountain.

Benny started a wonderful fountain show for all his friends. He swung his trunk left and right, making shapes with the water. Skip spun around and around, trying to catch the splashing drops. But Benny was careful to use every drop of water wisely. “We can have fun without wasting it,” he thought.

Pip flew over the arch of water Benny had created. When the sunlight hit the droplets, a tiny rainbow appeared in the sky! Benny used the water like a gentle rain instead of a heavy spray. “Look!” Pip sang. “The drops look so precious!”

Benny stopped for a moment and lowered his trunk. His friends looked at him curiously. “Friends,” Benny said, “water is very precious to us. If we spray it all at once, the river will get tired and there won't be enough for other thirsty animals. We must save our water.” Shellie listened carefully to Benny's words.

Benny continued, “Look, this water makes the flowers grow and gives life to the trees. If we aren't careful, our forest will stay thirsty.” Skip noticed a tiny flower nearby that was drooping from the heat. He finally understood how important it was to be careful with water.

Skip and Pip quickly found some large green leaves. They took a tiny bit of water from the river and poured it onto the base of the flower they had just seen. Now, they weren't just cooling themselves down; they were protecting nature too. Having fun without wasting water felt much better.

All the friends gathered by the riverbank. They all made a promise together: “We will always use water carefully and never waste it!” Shellie gave Benny’s trunk a little thank-you pat. Benny was very happy that his friends agreed to save water.

As the day ended, the air became cool. Benny lay down in the shade of a large tree. Beside him was a cool drink made of fresh fruits in a coconut shell. He and his friends had cooled off and learned how valuable water is. Benny took a sip of his drink and peacefully closed his eyes.
