About this genre

In these science stories, young characters make a cloud in a jar, test whether a backyard rock fell from space, track a strange light with a telescope and fix a looping bug in code. Thirteen of the 15 books are for ages 10-12 and tie straight into school science and maths. All can be read online or played as audio.

What science topics do these stories cover?
The water cycle, meteorites and the Perseid meteor shower, light and plant growth, saving energy, wind power, noise pollution, digital mapping and coding. The Laboratory of Invisible Numbers moves into maths with magic squares, Pi and the Fibonacci sequence.
What age or grade are they for?
Thirteen are tagged ages 10-12, roughly grades 4 to 6. For younger readers there is The Little Astronaut in the Moonlight (ages 7-9) and Pearl the Little Otter's River Journey (ages 4-6).
Can we try the experiments at home?
Some, yes, with an adult. The cloud-in-a-jar setup in The Water Cycle Watchers needs only a jar, plastic wrap and ice cubes, and the light-switch audit from The Energy Detectives Club works in any home.
Are there stories about coding and robots?
Yes. In The Coding Forest Library, four friends fix an endless loop with an if-else rule to save a digital forest. In Code Name: Atlas, a school robot built to collect litter stops to comfort a crying student, which opens a talk about technology and ethics.
How can teachers use these in class?
Play the story as a hook at the start of a unit, then repeat the characters' observation as a class activity. The PDF download on each book page lets you hand the story out as a reading sheet.
Are these information books or stories?
They are stories: each has a problem, a team of children who solve it, and an ending. The science comes in as the tool the characters use, not as a lecture.
