Ziggy the Little Zebra and the Thirsty Flower
Ziggy the Little Zebra was walking across the warm savanna one sunny morning. He loved wandering through the tall, golden grass. Suddenly, he stopped. Right by the path, he saw a small flower with its head bowed low, looking very sad.
Ziggy leaned in closer to see what was wrong. The flower’s bright colors had faded, and its green leaves were wilted. They hung down loosely, as if the flower was too tired to hold them up anymore.
“Why are you so sad?” Ziggy wondered. He looked down at the ground where the flower grew. The soil was very dry and had tiny cracks in it from the heat. “I understand now!” Ziggy said. “You aren't sleepy; you are just very thirsty!”
Ziggy knew he needed help, so he called for his best friend, Finn the Elephant. Finn came over with big, heavy steps. When he saw the dry soil, Finn knew exactly what to do. He hurried to the nearby river and filled his long trunk with cool water.
Finn carefully moved his trunk over the little flower. “Time for a refreshing drink!” he seemed to say. He began to sprinkle a gentle, misty shower of water directly onto the dry, cracked soil.
After the watering was done, the two friends stood very still and waited. They watched the water disappear as the thirsty ground soaked it all up. Ziggy whispered, “I hope this helps our little friend.”
A few moments later, something wonderful happened! The flower’s bowed head slowly began to lift. The water was traveling up through the stem, making the flower strong and straight once again.
The flower was now standing tall and proud! Its petals looked bright and vibrant, glowing under the savanna sun. It looked like the flower was finally smiling again. Ziggy was so happy he could hardly stay still.
“Are there any other thirsty friends nearby?” Finn wondered. He began to look around at the other bushes. He moved his trunk gently to check if any other leaves felt dry or needed a drink.
With happy hearts, Ziggy and Finn continued their journey across the savanna. They walked carefully, making sure to look where they stepped, ready to help any other friend they might find along the way.
