Whiskers and the Quiet Game
Whiskers and his friends, Pip and Barnaby, were playing in the sunny living room. There were colorful blocks and soft pillows everywhere. Suddenly, Whiskers noticed little Luna, the baby kitten, curled up and sleeping peacefully by the doorway.
Whiskers quickly put his paw to his mouth and turned to his friends. “Shhh!” he whispered. He pointed to Luna by the door. If they made too much noise, the baby’s sweet nap would be ruined. Barnaby froze and focused on Whiskers.
Pip and Barnaby understood right away. They huddled close together and whispered a new plan. They wouldn't run or jump anymore; instead, they decided to play a “Quiet Game.” They sat down side-by-side on a large, fluffy green cushion.
Whiskers and Pip chose the softest plush bears and cars from the toy basket. They began to move the toys across the rug one by one, very slowly. Each toy moved gently, as if it were gliding on an invisible cloud.
Not a single sound could be heard in the room. Barnaby was connecting wooden train cars on the tracks without making a peep. Whiskers helped him hold the cars steady so they wouldn't tip over. No one shouted, and no one moved fast; the room was full of peace.
Whiskers really liked this new way of playing. He used to think that only running and shouting were fun. But now, he realized how much joy there was in this calm and quiet time with his friends. His heart felt full of soft happiness.
The game became even more interesting. Without saying a word, Pip used his body to show how a bunny eats a carrot. Barnaby started to wiggle his ears and move his nose to pretend he was a funny fish.
As Whiskers and his friends watched each other’s funny imitations, they struggled not to laugh out loud. Barnaby covered his mouth tightly with his paws, and Whiskers hugged his cushion hard to keep his giggles inside.
Finally, they couldn't help it, but they still didn't wake Luna. They looked at each other and laughed silently, their shoulders shaking with joy. Meanwhile, little Luna remained in a deep sleep by the door, completely unaware.
Whiskers learned how important it is to think about the peace and sleep of others. When the game was over, Pip and Barnaby walked on their tiptoes. They followed Whiskers and slipped out of the room quietly without disturbing the sleeping baby.
