The rain had finally stopped, and the sun peeked shyly through the clouds. Puffy the rabbit looked out of his round wooden window. The forest smelled fresh and earthy. Puffy couldn't wait to get outside and hop across the wet, green grass.

Puffy ran to the shoe rack by the door. There, waiting for him, were his rain boots that shone as bright as the sun. He tucked his left foot in, then his right foot, with a “plop, plop.” “Now I am ready!” he cheered happily.

He opened the door and dashed outside. The forest path was dotted with tiny puddles. Puffy saw a very small puddle right at the edge of the path. This puddle was only as big as Puffy’s tiny paw!

Puffy took a tiny step into the little puddle. “Splosh!” went the water. Small ripples danced around the toes of his boots. “What a tiny sound!” Puffy whispered, watching the water move.

Puffy kept walking until he stopped under the great oak tree. His eyes grew wide with wonder. There, right in front of him, was a puddle much bigger than the first one! It looked like a tiny lake had formed in the middle of the forest.

Puffy walked slowly to the edge of the big puddle. The water was so still that he could see his own reflection. “This puddle is so big, I could fit all the way inside!” he thought, walking carefully along the muddy rim.

Puffy took a deep breath, perked up his ears, and shouted, “One, two, three!” He took a giant leap. “K-SPLASH!” went the water with a loud boom. Water flew everywhere, splashing all the way up to Puffy’s tummy.

“Hahaha!” Puffy laughed out loud. A tiny drop of water had landed right on the tip of his nose. Jumping in the big puddle was much more exciting than jumping in the little one!

Just then, Lily the fox appeared from behind the bushes. Lily was wearing a bright red raincoat that crinkled as she moved. “Hi Puffy! Can I join the fun?” Lily asked, waving a paw.

“Look, Lily!” Puffy said. “The puddle under the oak tree is BIG, but the puddle at the start of the path is SMALL.” The two friends stood side by side, looking at the different sizes of the water.

Lily jumped into the big puddle with a loud “THUMP,” while Puffy hopped into the small one with a soft “TAP.” “Big puddle, big fun! Small puddle, small joy!” they sang together as they played their new game.

When the sky began to get dark, it was time to go home. Puffy and Lily placed their boots side by side by the door to dry. As the boots rested, the two friends talked about how big and beautiful their day was before falling fast asleep.
