Momi the Walrus lived in a big, wide world of white. Everywhere she looked, there was sparkling snow and bright ice. It is very pretty, Momi whispered to herself, but I wonder if there are any other secrets hidden here. She sat on the edge of her favorite ice floe, watching the morning light begin to wake up the world.

As the sun climbed higher, the sky began to glow. Momi met her friend Puka the Seal by the water. Look up, Puka! Momi cried out with a smile. The sun was a bright, cheerful yellow, painting the clouds like giant scoops of lemon ice cream. Puka splashed her tail in excitement, looking up at the warm glow.

Puka pointed to a smooth patch of ice at their feet. Look down, Momi! The ice isn't just white anymore. It is catching the sun’s light! In the middle of a frozen puddle, a bright yellow reflection shimmered. It looked like a golden coin resting on the ground, making the cold ice feel warm and bright.

While they were exploring the yellow light, they found Pekko the Penguin standing near a tall ice wall. Momi, come see this! Pekko called out, waving a flipper. On the side of the ice where the sun could not reach, the shadows were a deep, cool blue. It was as if the ice was wearing a blue velvet coat.

Is the snow blue now? Momi asked, tilting her head. Pekko giggled and shook his head. No, it's just the light playing hide-and-seek! Pekko and Puka decided to slide down a nearby hill. As they zipped through the blue shadows and into the yellow sunlight, their tracks looked like colorful ribbons behind them.

As the afternoon went on, the sky began to change again. Tula the Arctic Hare hopped over the soft snowbanks to join them. Look at the clouds, Momi! Tula said quietly. The sky was turning a soft, beautiful pink, like the inside of a seashell. Momi had never seen the world look so gentle.

Tula hopped across the snow, leaving tiny paw prints. When the sun is low, the colors stretch out, she explained. Momi watched as Tula’s white fur caught the pink light, making her look like a hopping rose petal. Tula showed Momi how the color changed depending on where they stood.

Suddenly, a loud chirp came from above. Lari the Seagull soared down and hovered over Momi. You are all looking from the ground! Lari called out. But from high up in the air, the perspective changes everything! The ice looks like a giant, colorful painting from here!

Lari flew over to where Pekko was resting. As the sun disappeared, wavy green ribbons began to dance across the dark sky. The Northern Lights! Lari chirped. The bright green light swirled and twirled, reflecting off the ice and turning Pekko’s white belly a magical shade of emerald green.

Just then, a huge WHOOSH sound came from the dark water. Nalu the Whale surfaced right next to the ice where Momi was standing. Hello, Momi, Nalu rumbled in a deep, kind voice. The ocean has colors that go very deep, far beneath the ice you walk on.

Nalu took a deep breath and blew a great mist of water from her blowhole. As the moonlight and the green aurora hit the tiny water droplets, a shimmering rainbow appeared for just a second. Colors are everywhere, Nalu said, you just have to look at things in a new way.

Momi sat back down with Puka as the stars began to twinkle. She realized that her world was never just white. It was yellow, blue, pink, and green. With her friends by her side and the light above them, Momi knew that every day on the ice would be full of new colors to discover.
