Little Hen and the Blue Umbrella

Spring had arrived, and the meadow was full of sweet-smelling flowers. Little Hen Çilli was exploring when she saw something bright peeking through the grass. It was a big, beautiful blue umbrella! Just then, a tiny drop fell from the sky. Drip! Then another. Drip-drop! The rain was starting.

Çilli popped the blue umbrella open with a click. What a wonderful umbrella! she chirped. She looked over and saw her friend Yumak, the yellow chick, huddled under a leaf. Yumak was getting wet. Çilli called out with a smile. Come here, Yumak! Come under my umbrella. Let’s walk together.

The rain began to fall faster. Splash, splash, splash! Pamuk, the white rabbit, came hopping by, shaking his long, damp ears. Yumak called out happily. Come join us, Pamuk! Our umbrella is very wide. With a big hop, Pamuk wiggled his nose and joined them in the dry spot.

High up in a tree, Palamut the red squirrel peeked down. He had wrapped his bushy tail over his head to stay dry. Pamuk the rabbit looked up and said. Don't be afraid, Palamut! There is plenty of room for you under the blue umbrella. Palamut scurried down the trunk and tucked himself in next to his friends.

Something moved slowly on the ground. It was Diken, the little hedgehog, watching the raindrops dance on the grass. Palamut the squirrel chirped. Come here, friend Diken! Sharing is sweet, and it’s warm under here. Diken crawled slowly over and snuggled in close to the others.

Quack, quack! Paytak the duckling was busy dancing in a silver puddle. Diken the hedgehog called out. Paytak, come join the group! Walking together is much more fun. Paytak waddled over. Waddle, waddle, waddle. Then stepped under the big blue umbrella.

Curly the lamb appeared with her soft, woolly coat. Baa, baa! Is there room for me too? she asked softly. Paytak the duckling quacked happily. Of course, Curly! Friends are happiest when they share. Curly stepped forward and tucked her head under the shade of the blue umbrella.

A tiny sparrow named Cikcik fluttered down from the sky, her wings feeling heavy from the rain. Curly the lamb looked up and said. Welcome, Cikcik! Are you wet? Our umbrella protects everyone. Cikcik chirped a thank you and perched right on Curly’s soft, woolly back.

Tıpış the turtle arrived with very slow, careful steps. Cikcik the sparrow chirped from above. Don't rush, Tıpış! The umbrella is waiting for you. Tıpış smiled and moved his heavy shell slowly until he was tucked inside. It was getting crowded, but everyone was very happy.

Finally, Hopzıp the little kid goat arrived. Mee! Can I fit too? he asked, looking at the crowded group. Tıpış the turtle nodded his head slowly. If we all stand just a little bit closer, there is room for everyone. Hopzıp gave a joyful hop and squeezed in. Now, all ten friends were together.

The rain began to turn into a light mist. Everything in the meadow sparkled like silver. Hopzıp and Çilli looked down at a large, clear puddle on the ground. Look! Çilli whispered. It looks like the sky has fallen into the earth. They watched their happy reflections in the water.

Suddenly, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds. A bright, colorful rainbow stretched across the sky. Çilli closed her blue umbrella and left it by the daisies. She and Yumak began to run and play in the wet grass. Sharing a little kindness makes every day as beautiful as the sun.
