Pip opened his eyes with a giant yawn. He waited for the cheerful bird songs that woke him up every morning. But today, the pond was very quiet. He tilted his head and listened closely, but he couldn't hear a single chirp.

“Why is no one singing today?” Pip wondered. He scratched his little green back. “Where did all the birds go? Maybe they forgot about me,” he thought with a worried look on his face.

Pip began to search all around the pond. He peeked under the wide lily pads and wiggled through the tall reeds. He checked every corner carefully, but the pond remained silent.

He hopped away from the pond and toward the edge of the forest where the tall trees grew. “Maybe the birds are hiding here,” he whispered to himself.

Pip looked up at the branches of the nearest willow tree. The leaves rustled gently in the breeze, but he couldn't see a single bird among the swaying green leaves.

Just as he was about to give up hope, Pip lay back and looked at the sky. Soft white clouds were drifting across the bright blue. Suddenly, he noticed a tiny movement far away.

High at the top of a giant plane tree, he saw a flash of colorful feathers. Pip spotted his best bird friend, Skylar! “There they are!” he shouted happily.

Pip used his strong legs to hop all the way to the giant tree. When he reached the bottom, he looked up. Skylar and the other birds were all there, sitting side by side on the branches.

But the birds were still not singing. Skylar had her head tucked under her wing, resting quietly. They all looked like they were having a very peaceful nap.

After a little while, Skylar opened her eyes. She opened her beak wide and sang a beautiful melody. Soon, all the other birds joined in. The forest was filled with their wonderful music once again.

Pip smiled a big, wide smile. He learned that just because he couldn't see or hear something right away, it didn't mean it was gone forever. The birds just needed a little rest.

Pip hopped all the way back to his pond, following the rhythm of Skylar’s song. He knew now that even when things were quiet, his friends were always there.
