Pip the little penguin was waddling joyfully across the pure white snow. Suddenly, he saw a huge ice hill sparkling like a diamond under the sun. A long, smooth ice path stretched all the way down from the side of the hill. Pip stopped in surprise and gazed at the shimmering sight.

Pip climbed to the very top of the hill with his tiny steps. When he looked down, his heart started going “thump-thump.” He thought to himself, “I wonder if I can slide down from here? Or will I go too fast?” He put a flipper on his chin and studied the long ice path.

Just then, his friend Bluey came along. Bluey was cheerful as always. “Hi Pip! What are you doing here?” he asked. Pip pointed to the shiny path. Bluey’s eyes grew wide. “Wow, this might be the most amazing slide I’ve ever seen!” he said.

The two friends carefully looked at the end of the path. Where the path ended, there was a huge, soft, and snowy white mound. “Look, it looks like cotton candy!” Pip said. Bluey nodded in agreement: “Yes, falling there won't hurt at all. It will be very safe to slide from here!”

Pip and Bluey sat down side-by-side. They took a deep breath and bumped their wings together. Pip asked, “Are you ready, Bluey?” Bluey said, “I'm ready! Let's go!” They both pushed themselves forward at the same time.

“Wheeeeeee!” they shouted as they sped across the ice like the wind. The ice was so smooth it felt as if they were flying. The cold air hit their faces, but they were only laughing. Sliding on their bellies across the ice was the best feeling in the world.

Plop! The two friends dived into the soft snow pile at the end of the path. They were covered in white snow. They popped their heads out of the snow, looked at each other, and started laughing out loud. “That was great! We must do it again!” they said.

Hearing their joyful voices, other penguins gathered at the top of the hill. Everyone wanted to try this new slide. The penguins began to line up one by one. However, a chubby penguin named Frosty tried to jump in front of everyone without waiting.

Pip immediately went over to Frosty and stopped him. “Wait a minute, Frosty,” he said kindly. “If we wait for our turn, we will all have more fun and no one will get hurt. Taking turns is the rule of the game.” Frosty hesitated for a moment, and seeing his other friends waiting, he moved to the back of the line.

Now everything was much more organized. When it was his turn, Frosty slid down shouting, “Yay!” His friend Bluey was at the bottom of the hill, waving and cheering for him. Everyone was sliding in order, and no one was pushing each other.

As the sun slowly began to set, Pip and Bluey sat side-by-side at the edge of the hill. Pip was thinking about how sharing things with friends and taking turns made the day so much better. “Playing together and following the rules is much more fun than playing alone,” Pip said.

When evening came, Pip returned to his nest. He lay down on his soft snow bed and closed his eyes. He still had that shiny ice slide and the laughter with his friends in his mind. Pip fell asleep happily, dreaming of the next day's games.
