The sun spread like a warm blanket over the bright green jungle. Phinny the tiny elephant woke up with a wiggle and a giggle. He was so excited today because he had a very special secret to share with his friends! Phinny began to hop and skip across the soft, mossy ground.

Under the big fruit trees, Phinny spotted his best friend, Zip the monkey. Zip was swinging happily from a long vine. Phinny ran up and shouted with all his might, “ZIP! I HAVE A WONDERFUL SECRET!” His voice was so loud that some ripe yellow fruits fell “plop, plop” to the grass.

Just then, Sky the little bluebird landed on a nearby branch. Phinny turned to her and trumpeted even louder, “SKY! DO YOU WANT TO HEAR MY SECRET?” Phinny’s big voice echoed through the trees. A group of colorful butterflies in the bushes nearby fluttered away in a hurry.

Zip and Sky looked at each other and started to giggle. “Phinny, was that a secret or a thunderstorm?” Zip asked with a laugh. Sky added, “Secrets should be a little quieter, Phinny. Our ears are ringing!” Phinny felt a little bit shy. He used his big, floppy ears to cover his face.

Phinny took a deep breath. He curled his trunk and thought about how to make his voice smaller. “Maybe I should make it light as a feather,” he thought. He closed his eyes and whispered to himself, “Slowly and softly... slowly and softly.”

Phinny walked very slowly over to Sky. This time, instead of shouting, he leaned in and put his trunk close to her ear. “Tomorrow there is a cake party by the river,” he whispered very, very quietly. Sky’s eyes sparkled with joy. “Oh, Phinny, that was a perfect whisper!” she chirped.

Zip jumped down from the tree. “I want to hear a whisper too!” he said. Phinny turned to Zip and whispered right into his fuzzy ear, “But it’s a big surprise!” Zip hopped with excitement, but he remembered to stay quiet. “Shhh, I understand!” he whispered back.

“Let’s play a whisper game!” Phinny suggested. The friends gathered close. Zip leaned over and whispered a single word into Sky's ear. Everyone took turns passing the secret along. Their whispers moved through the trees like a soft, gentle breeze.

When the game was finished, the friends all used their normal voices to say the whole story together: “On a sunny day, in the heart of the jungle, all the friends will eat cake!” They danced around with joy. Phinny let out a happy, gentle toot with his trunk.

When evening came, Phinny headed back home. He knew exactly when to be loud and when to be soft. He found his mommy, Ellie, and gave her a giant hug. He leaned in and whispered softly, “I love you, Mommy.” Phinny fell asleep very happy that night.
