Lily loved the technology club more than anything in the world. The room was always a mess of circuit parts, colorful wires, and clicking gears. Today, Lily was especially excited because she had finally finished the project she had been working on for weeks: a small robot with a metallic blue body and three sturdy wheels.

Lily placed the robot on the flat floor and pressed the small button on its back. The robot quivered slightly, then let out a cheerful “Beep!” It rolled forward a few inches, stopped, and then rolled backward. Lily clapped her hands in delight. “Welcome to the world, Aris,” she said.

Aris could only go forward and backward for now, but Lily believed he was capable of much more. She leaned down and looked at the robot curiously. “Yes, Aris, you can move,” she whispered. “But what else can you do? What is your big talent?”

Lily began the first test: the Carrying Task. She attached a small plastic clip to Aris and placed a yellow pencil inside it. “Alright, Aris, take this pencil to the other end of the table,” she commanded. The robot rolled steadily, reaching the goal without dropping the pencil once.

The second test was the Strength Test. Lily placed an empty cardboard box in front of the robot. Aris’s small wheels gripped the floor, and he began to push the box with all his might. He successfully slid the box all the way to the edge of the rug. Lily cheered, “You are much stronger than you look!”

Now it was time for the most difficult challenge: Line Following. Lily took a large sheet of white paper and drew a long, curvy path with a thick black marker. Aris’s bottom sensor glowed with a bright red light. The robot began to follow the black line perfectly, inch by inch.

But then, something unexpected happened. In the middle of the curve, Aris suddenly stopped. He began to spin in circles rapidly, then veered completely off the black line and crashed into the leg of a nearby chair with a loud “Clunk!”

Lily rushed to the robot’s side. She picked him up and brought him to eye level. “What’s wrong, Aris? Why did you lose your way?” she asked. She began to examine him carefully. She noticed a thick layer of grey dust had settled right over the delicate sensor on his underside.

Lily went to her desk and grabbed a soft, blue cloth. “I see,” she said with a smile. “You couldn't see the path because your eyes were dirty. I've learned that understanding machines isn't just about making them work; it’s about observing them closely.” She gently wiped the sensor until it was sparkling clean.

Just then, her friend Idris walked over. “Why did Aris stop, Lily?” he asked. Lily explained how the sensor had gotten dirty and how it made the robot act as if it were blind. Idris looked at the robot with great interest, impressed by Lily’s careful observation.

Soon, their friend Zora joined them. “He shouldn't just follow lines,” Zora suggested. “Let's give him new challenges!” Together, they started drawing a giant obstacle course on the floor. They now knew exactly what Aris needed to succeed.

Lily finally knew the answer to Aris’s big question. Aris could do anything, but he needed a friend to guide him and watch over him. Lily and her little robot were now a perfect team, ready for any adventure.
