Leo looked out his bedroom window, watching a bird glide gracefully through the air. Then, he looked down at the paper planes scattered on his floor. “Why do some paper planes fly all the way across the room, while others dive straight to the ground?” he wondered. This simple question was the first step in a big adventure for Leo.

To satisfy his curiosity, he got right to work. He sat at his desk and prepared three different colors of paper. He made the first plane long and thin, the second with wide wings, and the third with the wingtips folded upward. Each one looked completely different from the others.

Leo went to the start of the hallway and stuck a piece of tape on the floor. “This is the launch line,” he said to himself. He picked up his first plane, took a deep breath, and gently tossed it forward. He was very careful to fly each plane from exactly the same spot.

When the flights were finished, Leo looked at the results. The long, thin plane had zoomed like an arrow to the very end of the hallway. The wide-winged one had looped in a circle and landed right on the nearby rug. Leo was amazed by the difference.

Leo picked up the planes one by one to examine them. He compared the wing shapes and felt their weight in his hands. “So, the shape of the wings must catch the wind differently,” he thought. He liked thinking like a real scientist.

He decided to take the experiment one step further. This time, he made giant versions and tiny versions of the same models. He grabbed his lined notebook and began to record the distance of each flight, the shape of the plane, and every change he made.

Leo began to see how small changes affected the flight distance. “The small ones are faster but less stable,” he noted. Just then, there was a knock at his door; it was his best friend, Lily.

Leo excitedly explained his experiments and his notes to Lily. Lily’s eyes lit up. “That’s a brilliant idea, Leo! Let’s work together to find the perfect model that can cut through the wind and fly the farthest,” she said.

The two friends sat down at the desk to work on a new design. They combined Leo’s knowledge of speed with Lily’s ideas about balance. Lily added small folds to the tips of the wings to help the plane glide more smoothly through the air.

Lily threw the new plane, and it made a perfect landing. She jumped up with joy, but Leo asked her to wait a moment. “We can’t trust just one trial, Lily,” he said. “We need to throw the same plane three times to be sure of the result. That’s what the scientific method requires.”

By the end of the day, the room was filled with colorful paper planes. Leo and Lily had learned not just how to fold paper, but how to be patient and organized to solve a problem. These small planes had turned into an unforgettable science adventure for them.
