Koby the Little Koala and the Leaf Counting Game

It was a sunny morning. Koby the little koala climbed down from his favorite eucalyptus tree. His eyes sparkled when he saw the colorful leaves scattered by the wind on the ground. There were so many leaves!

Koby leaned over and picked up the brightest-looking leaf. He examined the veins of the leaf and said, “One!” This was the very first step of his counting game.

He noticed two more leaves right next to him. He placed them beside the first one. “Two and three!” he whispered. Koby’s little leaf collection was starting to grow.

Just then, a sound came from the bushes: “Boing! Boing! Boing!” Koby’s best friend, Kip the Kangaroo, arrived. “Hi Koby! What are you doing?” Kip asked.

“I'm counting leaves, Kip. Will you help me?” Koby asked. Kip wagged his tail with excitement. Together, they started to separate the leaves into small groups. Now, counting was going to be much easier.

Kip jumped with his strong legs and brought a few more leaves. “Look Koby, there are three leaves here, and four over there!” he said, grouping them. The leaves formed two separate piles on the green grass.

Koby continued to count by touching each leaf one by one with his finger. “One, two, three, four, five...” Following the order of the numbers felt just like a melody.

Suddenly, a wind blew from deep within the forest with a “Whoosh!” The branches of the eucalyptus trees swayed, and all the leaves on the ground began to dance in the air. “Oh no, our numbers are flying away!” Koby cried.

Kip made a big leap into the air with his long legs. “You can't escape, leaves!” he said as he caught a flying leaf in mid-air. Kip was very fast and agile.

As the wind calmed down, Koby and Kip patiently gathered all the scattered leaves again. They lined them all up once more in front of a wide tree trunk.

“Counting is truly a wonderful game,” Koby said, hugging his friend. Kip agreed. Together, they counted all the leaves one last time, perfectly this time. The forest echoed with their joyful voices.

The sky began to darken, and the stars started to come out. Koby slowly climbed his tree and lay down on a soft branch. As he closed his eyes, he was still counting in his head: “One leaf, two leaves, three...” Koby drifted into a dream of numbers.
