Benny the Little Yak was exploring a cozy wooden cabin high in the mountains. Tucked in a corner, he found a beautiful, unfinished blanket made of many colorful squares. It’s so pretty, but it’s not finished yet, Benny said. He wanted to complete it so he and his friends could stay warm. Look at the corner of the blanket Benny is holding. What color is that corner piece?

Just then, Sammy the Mountain Goat hopped into the cabin. He saw the blanket and wanted to help! Sammy looked at the colors and chose bright orange and yellow patches. These look just like a beautiful sunrise, Sammy bleated happily. Sammy and Benny held the bright pieces together. Can you tell me, what color is the sun?

Pip the Bunny hopped over with her tiny paws full of scraps. She didn't just look at the colors; she felt them with her soft fur. These are the fluffiest pieces in the whole world! Pip whispered. She snuggled a fuzzy white patch against her cheek. Pip looks very happy with her discovery. Does the fabric feel soft to you?

Whistler the Marmot arrived next. He loved things to be very neat. He took all the loose pieces and started lining them up across the floor. Look, Benny! It’s a color train! Whistler chirped. He sat at the end of the long line, making sure every piece was straight. Look at the line of fabric. How many red pieces do you see?

High above, Pippin the Bird chirped a suggestion. She flew down with a blue piece and a green piece in her beak. The sky and the forest should touch, Pippin sang to Benny. Benny held the green piece while Pippin dropped the blue one next to it. They looked like a beautiful landscape. What color is the sky today?

Toby the Turtle moved very slowly and carefully. He put on his glasses to check every single edge of the fabric. A good blanket needs strong knots, Toby said wisely. He tapped a very large, purple square piece with his foot to make sure it was sturdy. Toby is taking his time. Do you think that big square piece looks big?

Sammy and Pip worked together to start joining the pieces. They didn't use any needles, just long, colorful ribbons to tie safe, pretty knots. Sammy held the fabric steady while Pip tied a neat bow. They were a great team! Look closely at their pile of supplies. Can you see where the orange ribbon is?

Whistler and Pippin helped the blanket grow and grow. Pippin pulled one end into the air, and Whistler pulled the other end across the floor. Now, the blanket was so big it looked like a giant, soft rainbow stretching across the room. It was getting very long! Which color on the blanket do you think is the brightest?

Toby gave the whole blanket one final, slow check to make sure every knot was tight. Then, Benny stepped forward. He had the very last piece a golden yellow tie to hold the final corner. It's finished! Benny cheered. Toby nodded his head in approval. What color is that very last piece Benny is holding?

The wind began to whistle outside the cabin, but the friends didn't mind. Benny and Toby climbed under the giant, heavy blanket. It was so big it could cover everyone! They felt the warmth of the colors and the soft fabric. It was the perfect place to hide from the cold. Does the blanket look cozy to you?

While they rested, Pip and Whistler brought out a snack to share. They had sweet apple slices and juicy orange slices for everyone. They ate their treats under the warmth of their new rainbow blanket. Sharing makes everything taste better, Whistler said. Look at the snacks. What color is a crunchy apple?

Benny looked at all his friends and smiled. Thank you for helping me, he said softly. The mountain was quiet, and the cabin was warm. One by one, the friends began to yawn. It was time for a long, sweet sleep under their handmade rainbow. Benny is closing his eyes now. Are you ready for bed, too?
