Tiny Snail's Path of Patience

Once upon a sunny morning, a tiny snail named Helix woke up on a soft green leaf. He stretched his neck and looked at the bright forest. Today was the day of the Big Forest Picnic at the Old Oak Tree. Helix was very excited! He began his journey with a happy heart. Slide, glide, and smile, that was his way.

Suddenly, a rabbit named Zippy hopped over with a mighty "Boing!" Zippy was very fast and very fuzzy. "Hello, Helix!" Zippy chirped. "The picnic is starting soon. We must hurry or we will miss the delicious clover honey!" Helix nodded and moved as fast as his little body could go, but Zippy was already three hops ahead.

From the high branches above, a squirrel named Nimble scurried down. "Wait for me!" Nimble called out. Nimble was very quick and loved to climb. "The sun is moving across the sky, Helix! We should run so we can find the best spot under the tree." Helix smiled at his friend. "I am coming," he said softly.

Zippy and Nimble were so fast! They raced each other to the next big mushroom. They zipped around the ferns and zoomed over the twigs. They stopped and looked back, waiting for their small friend. "Come on, Helix!" they called together. They were very patient, but they really loved to move fast.

Helix was moving slowly, but he wasn't sad. Because he moved slowly, he saw things his friends missed. He stopped to look at a single dewdrop hanging from a blade of grass. Inside the dewdrop, he saw the whole forest and a tiny, tiny rainbow. "Oh, how beautiful," Helix whispered to himself.

Zippy hopped back to see why Helix had stopped. "What are you looking at, Helix?" Zippy asked, twitching his nose. Helix pointed to the blade of grass. When Zippy looked closely, he saw the tiny rainbow too. "Wow," said Zippy, sitting very still. "I never noticed that before because I was hopping too fast."

Further down the path, Helix found a very smooth, shiny purple stone tucked under a leaf. He called out to Nimble. "Look at this treasure, Nimble!" Nimble scrambled down from a branch to see. "It’s so smooth!" Nimble said, feeling the stone. "I usually just run over these stones without looking at them."

Zippy and Nimble looked at each other and then at Helix. They realized that Helix’s slow pace let him see all the magic of the forest. "Do you want to run ahead?" Helix asked kindly. "The picnic is waiting." Zippy shook his head, and Nimble swished his tail. "No," they said. "We want to see the forest with you."

The three friends traveled the rest of the way together. Helix led the way, showing them the softest moss and the way the shadows danced on the ground. When they finally reached the Big Oak Tree, the sun was still high. They hadn't missed anything. In fact, they had found so much more along the way.

At the picnic, all the animals cheered. Helix felt very happy. He loved his little shell and his slow, steady pace. He learned that being slow was just as wonderful as being fast. Zippy and Nimble sat with him, sharing clover honey and berries. Everyone’s path and speed are different, and that is very valuable.
