The Little Sparrow and the Sharing Tree

Pip was a little sparrow with soft, round feathers. One sunny morning, he found something wonderful in the grass. It was a big, golden sunflower seed! "This is all mine," Pip chirped happily. He wanted to eat it all by himself.

Pip flew to a very special place. He visited a grand old tree named Rowan. Rowan had wide, strong branches and leaves that danced in the breeze. "Hello, Rowan!" Pip sang. Rowan rustled his leaves in a friendly way.

Pip did not want any other birds to see his treasure. He found a small, cozy hole in Rowan’s bark. He tucked his golden seed deep inside the mossy nook. "I will save this for later," Pip whispered to himself.

Later that day, Pip was exploring near the garden. He found a bright red berry hanging from a bush. It looked very juicy and sweet. Pip picked it up and held it tight. He thought about how yummy it would taste.

As Pip started to fly away, he saw Brio the squirrel. Brio was very busy on the ground. He was using his paws to move crunchy brown leaves out of the way. He was clearing a path so everyone could walk safely.

Brio looked up and saw Pip. He gave a friendly wave with his big, fluffy tail. Brio found a beautiful, bright yellow leaf and held it out. "I found this for you, Pip!" Brio said. "It is a gift to make your nest pretty."

Pip felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in his chest. Brio was being so kind! Pip looked at his juicy red berry. "Would you like to have some, Brio?" Pip asked. He shared half of the berry with his new friend.

Pip and Brio decided to walk together. Soon, they met Inez the tortoise. Inez was moving very slowly and carefully across the grass. She looked very peaceful and wise. "Hello, friends," she said with a slow smile.

Inez was a very helpful tortoise. She showed Pip and Brio a secret spot where the water was clear and cool. "This is the best place to drink when the sun is hot," Inez explained politely.

Pip realized that his friends were very happy because they helped each other. He thought about his hidden golden seed. He flew back to Rowan the tree and pulled the seed out of its secret, cozy hole.

Pip brought the golden seed back to his friends. "Let's all eat together!" Pip chirped. He broke the seed into pieces. Brio, Inez, and Pip sat in a circle. The seed tasted much better now that he was sharing it.

Under the cool shade of Rowan, the three friends talked and laughed all afternoon. Rowan waved his branches over them like a big hug. Pip learned that food is good, but friends are even better.
