Pip the little pangolin noticed the leaves on his favorite tree changing every week. The bright green leaves were slowly turning into a golden yellow. “My tree is wearing a new dress,” Pip whispered softly to himself.

Hopper the rabbit hopped over and sniffed a leaf that had fallen to the ground. “Look, Hopper, these leaves tell us that time is passing,” said Pip. Together, they began to line up the yellow leaves in a long row on the forest floor.

Nutty the squirrel scurried down from the highest branches with a vibrant red leaf in his paws. Pip loved this new color and added it to the end of the line. The leaf calendar was becoming more colorful and longer every day.

Bluey the bird swept down from the sky, carrying a brilliant orange leaf. “From way up high, the forest looks like a beautiful rainbow!” Bluey chirped happily. Pip watched in awe as each new color looked so different from the last.

Prickles the hedgehog lifted his nose and sniffed the cool air. “The air smells like fresh earth and wet leaves,” Prickles said. Pip noticed that the leaves on the ground were now very dry and made a fun “crunch, crunch” sound.

As the days went by, all the leaves fell off the tree, leaving the branches bare. Slowpoke the turtle crawled over to Pip. “Don't be sad, Pip,” Slowpoke said slowly. “The tree just needs to sleep for a little while.” The tree was getting ready for a long winter nap.

When winter arrived, the sky turned a bright, crystal blue. Pip sat by the tree trunk, soaking up the warm sunlight. “Resting is also a part of growing,” Pip thought to himself as he waited patiently.

Pip looked at his leaf calendar on the ground. The leaves had turned dark brown and were starting to crumble into the earth. Hopper came by and said, “The old leaves are becoming food for the soil.” Change was happening quietly all around them.

One morning, Nutty the squirrel shouted with excitement, “Pip, look! There is a tiny green dot right here!” Pip leaned in close and saw a miniscule green bud on the tip of a hard branch. It was the very first sign of waking up.

Bluey the bird found the very first flower blooming among the branches. The flower had soft pink and white petals that seemed to smile at the sun. “Being patient is truly a wonderful thing,” Pip said with a joyful heart.

Prickles the hedgehog walked across the warming soil to join Pip. The tree was now beginning to fill with fresh, tiny green leaves. The air no longer smelled like wet earth; it smelled like sweet flowers and new grass.

Slowpoke the turtle had been right; every ending was just a preparation for a new beginning. Pip understood that because of change, nature always stayed fresh and alive. Change was how the world grew and renewed itself with love.
