Fairy Tales

Total 14 books Page 2 of 2

About this genre

These are short, gently told retellings of fairy tales children already half-know: Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Puss in Boots, Aladdin, the Little Match Girl and more, with fresh names and kinder endings. Most of the 14 books suit ages 4-9, run about two to four minutes as audio, and can be read online for free.

Are these the original fairy tales?
They are retellings inspired by the classics, not word-for-word versions. Tekir's Big Game follows Puss in Boots, Eren and the Bright Lamp echoes Aladdin, and The Merry Quartet's Music Journey is a take on the Bremen Town Musicians.
Are any of them scary?
The familiar villains are still there, a cunning wolf, a jealous queen, getting lost in the woods, but scenes are brief and every tale ends warmly. For a sensitive child, start with The Shining Goose's Giggle, which is pure silliness.
What age are these fairy tales for?
Most are tagged ages 4-6 or 7-9. Red Cloak Ela and the Cunning Wolf is tagged 10-12 on the site, with a longer plot around the wolf's trick, so it also works for older children who think they have outgrown fairy tales.
Which fairy tale is best for bedtime?
Choose one with a quiet, warm ending. In Winter Night and Warm Light, the matchgirl Elif is taken in by a kind family, and in The Happy Story of the Different Duckling, gray Mavi becomes a swan in spring. Both are under four minutes.
Can I print these fairy tales?
Yes. Each book page has a PDF download, so you can print the illustrated pages for a reading corner or let your child color them in.
What can we do after reading?
Ask your child to spot what changed from the version they know, or to change one thing and retell it: 'What if the goose stopped shining?' Retelling with a twist is a simple way to practise sequencing and imagination.
