Little Robin and the Echo Valley

Robin was a small bird with bright feathers and a very big heart. One sunny morning, he flew into a place where the mountains were tall and the grass was soft. This was Echo Valley. Robin loved to explore new places.

Robin landed on a mossy branch of an old oak tree. He took a deep breath and sang out, "Tweet!" To his surprise, a voice from the hills sang back, "Tweet!" Robin tilted his head. He had never heard a mountain talk before!

Bouncy the Rabbit hopped over through the tall grass. "What are you doing, Robin?" he asked. "Watch this!" Robin said. Bouncy gave a giant leap and shouted, "Hop!" The valley shouted back, "Hop!" Bouncy’s long ears twitched with joy.

Billy the Kid, a young goat with tiny horns, came trotting by. He saw his friends playing and wanted to join. He stood on a flat rock and let out a loud, "Meh!" The valley answered right away, "Meh!" Billy wiggled his little tail in delight.

Nutty the Squirrel scurried down a tree trunk. He was holding a very crunchy acorn. "Crunch!" went Nutty as he took a big bite. "Crunch!" whispered the valley back from far away. Nutty looked up at the blue sky and giggled.

Prickles the Hedgehog crawled out from under a big, crunchy leaf. He was a little bit shy, but he wanted to make music too. He took a tiny breath and made a soft sound, "Hiss!" The valley sent a soft "Hiss!" back to him. Prickles curled into a happy ball.

Finally, Shelly the Turtle arrived. She moved slowly but surely across the pebbles. She looked at the giant hills and said in a clear, sweet voice, "Hello!" The valley replied, "Hello!" Shelly smiled a very wide, slow smile.

"How does the mountain do that?" asked Shelly. Robin flapped his wings and landed near her. "The valley is like a mirror," Robin explained. "Just like a mirror shows your face, the valley shows your voice."

"Let's all make a sound at the same time!" suggested Billy. Everyone got into a line. Bouncy stood on his hind legs, and Billy took a very deep breath. They were both very excited to hear the big echo.

Nutty and Prickles were ready too. Nutty held his acorn tight so it wouldn't drop, and Prickles looked up at the big green hills. "One, two, three..." Robin chirped, getting everyone's attention.

"Tweet! Hop! Meh! Crunch! Hiss! Hello!" they all shouted together. The valley roared back with all their voices at once. It was a beautiful, funny jumble of sounds. Robin and Shelly watched the clouds as the echo faded away.

They sat together in the quiet valley, listening to the soft wind in the trees. They felt lucky to live in such a wonderful world. Nature had many small miracles, and Echo Valley was their favorite one of all.
