# Sammy the Otter and the Round River Stones

> Sammy the Otter found many round stones of different sizes on the shallow bank of the river. The water was sparkling under the morning sun. Pip the Dragonfly buzzed over his head, darting through the air. “Look, Pip! Look at all these beautiful stones!” Sammy cried with excitement. The stones began to sparkle at the bottom of the river once again. Sammy thanked all his friends for the fun day. They had learned to explore nature and then leave it just as beautiful as they found it. The happy otter swam peacefully toward his home as the sun began to set.

Sammy the Otter found many round stones of different sizes on the shallow bank of the river. The water was sparkling under the morning sun. Pip the Dragonfly buzzed over his head, darting through the air. “Look, Pip! Look at all these beautiful stones!” Sammy cried with excitement.

Sammy reached out and picked up a tiny, grey stone with his paw. It was as small as a marble and very smooth. “This one is very little,” Sammy whispered. He held it up, watching how the wet stone shimmered like a jewel in the light.

Just then, Flippy the Frog croaked loudly from a nearby lily pad. “Ribbit! Ribbit!” Flippy hopped over to the shore, carrying a stone that was just a bit bigger than Sammy's. “Look, Sammy! My stone is larger than yours!” Flippy said with a wide froggy grin.

Sammy and Flippy put their two stones side by side on a flat patch of grass. They looked at them very carefully. Which one was bigger? Sammy chuckled and pointed. “You are right, Flippy! Your stone is bigger than mine!” They both loved this new discovery game.

Waddles the Duck waddled over to them with a happy quack. He was carrying a flat and wider stone in his orange beak. He set it down gently next to the others. “Now this is what I call a real river stone!” Waddles said proudly, shaking his feathers.

“Now we have three stones!” Flippy cheered, hopping up and down. They began to line them up in a neat row from the smallest to the largest. They tapped their feet and chanted together, “Tiny, small, and medium! One, two, and three!”

Bucky the Beaver arrived next, carrying a heavy, grey stone between his strong paws. This stone was much bigger and thicker than the one Waddles had found. “Is there room in the line for this one?” Bucky asked, panting a little from the weight.

## Page 8
Bucky had a little bit of trouble placing the heavy stone in the line. Sammy rushed over to hold one side of it. “It is much easier when we work together!” Bucky said with a smile. Finally, the fourth stone was perfectly in its place.

Finally, Shelly the Turtle crawled over with slow and steady steps. She showed them a huge, mossy stone that looked almost like the pattern on her own shell. “I think I found the biggest one of all,” Shelly said in her calm, gentle voice.

Now all the stones were in a perfect row. From the smallest to the largest: one, two, three, four, and five! All the friends looked at their hard work. “From tiny to huge, river stones in a line!” they all shouted happily together.

When the game was finished, Sammy looked at the sparkling river. “Now let's put the stones back in their homes,” he suggested. Waddles nodded his head. “Yes, the river is waiting for them.” One by one, the friends gently placed their stones back into the water.
