# Pip the Squirrel and the Nut Trail

> As the sun poured golden light over the forest, Pip the squirrel woke up in his cozy tree hollow. He stretched his tiny paws and ran straight to his nut basket. But oh no! The basket was completely empty. Pip twitched his tail in surprise and wondered, “Where did all my nuts go?” To thank his friend, Pip pulled out the biggest, crunchiest nuts for Fluff. They sat down in the shade of a colorful tree and had a wonderful picnic together. Pip’s basket was full, but his heart was even fuller with friendship.

As the sun poured golden light over the forest, Pip the squirrel woke up in his cozy tree hollow. He stretched his tiny paws and ran straight to his nut basket. But oh no! The basket was completely empty. Pip twitched his tail in surprise and wondered, “Where did all my nuts go?”

Pip hopped down and looked closely at the ground. He spotted a trail of crunchy nut shells leading away from his home. “Aha! A clue!” he chirped excitedly. He put his nose to the ground, ready to follow the trail of shells wherever it might lead.

## Page 3
The trail led him toward the oldest and biggest tree in the whole forest. The tree was so tall that when Pip looked up, he couldn't even see the top! “Maybe my nuts are hiding here,” he said, taking a curious walk all the way around the giant trunk.

Next, the trail of shells turned toward a small, sunny hill covered in soft grass and bright flowers. Pip skipped up the hill, singing a happy little song. The forest felt warm and cheerful, with butterflies dancing in the air around him.

On the other side of the hill, Pip started finding whole nuts shining in the grass. “One, two, three...” he counted as he picked them up. He stuffed so many nuts into his cheeks that his face looked round and silly!

Suddenly, Fluff the rabbit hopped out from behind some tall ferns. Fluff stopped when he saw Pip. “Hello, Pip! Why are your cheeks so big?” he asked with a giggle. Pip tried to explain what happened, even though it was hard to talk with a mouth full of nuts.

“I can help you find the rest!” Fluff offered kindly. The two friends moved together, following the tracks further into the woods. Fluff kept his long ears up and his nose twitching, while Pip kept his eyes glued to the ground.

When they reached a large, leafy green bush, Fluff suddenly stopped. He pointed his paw toward a patch of moss. “Look, Pip! I see something over there!” he whispered. There, tucked near a mossy stone, was Pip’s basket!

Pip raced toward the bush. His basket had tipped over, and all his nuts had rolled out, creating the long trail he had followed. Pip jumped for joy, shouting, “You found it! My basket and my nuts are all right here!”

Pip and Fluff got right to work. Fluff gathered the nuts from the grass, and Pip carefully tucked them back into the basket. Working together, the pile of nuts disappeared quickly, and the basket was soon full to the brim.

Once the basket was full, Pip took Fluff’s paw. “If I had been alone, this would have taken all day,” Pip said warmly. “Working together made everything so much easier!” He felt very lucky to have such a helpful friend.
