# Mittens and the Missing Ribbon

> The sun peeked through the window and tickled Mittens on her nose. She let out a long yawn and stretched her white paws wide. But as she went to straighten her collar, she felt something was wrong. Her neck felt bare and cold. “Oh no!” Mittens meowed. Her favorite pink ribbon was missing. Mittens walked back to the mirror and carefully tied the ribbon around her neck into a perfect bow.

Mittens jumped down from the bed to begin her search. She headed straight for her play corner. She pushed aside the big, fluffy cushions and swiped at the colorful balls of yarn. “Is it hiding behind the blue wool? Or under the yellow pillow?” she wondered. But the pink ribbon was not there.

Next, Mittens trotted over to her wooden toy box. It was a sturdy chest where all her most precious things were kept. She stood on her hind legs and peeked over the edge. “Maybe I dropped it in here while I was playing yesterday,” she thought.

Mittens began to dig through the box. She pulled out a bouncy rubber ball and a fuzzy plush mouse with a long tail. She found her rattle and her favorite crinkly feather toy, but the box was empty of pink ribbons. She let out a little sigh of disappointment.

“Where could it be?” Mittens whispered. She looked at the big bed across the room. It was dark and mysterious underneath. She flattened her tummy against the floor and slowly crawled into the shadows, her whiskers twitching in the dark.

It was very dusty under the bed. Mittens bumped into a group of fuzzy grey dust bunnies. “A-choo!” she sneezed, her whole body shaking. The dust bunnies tumbled away, but the pink ribbon wasn't among them. Mittens crawled back out into the light, rubbing her nose.

Mittens felt a bit tired from all the searching. She hopped up onto her favorite wooden stool and sat very still. She tapped her chin with one paw. “I have looked everywhere, but I haven't found it,” she said. “Smart cats must stop and think before they act.”

## Page 8
Mittens closed her eyes tight and tried to remember everything she did the day before. She remembered eating her breakfast, chasing a fly, and... yes! She remembered dancing and spinning in front of the big mirror in the hallway.

## Page 9
Mittens hopped off the stool with a plan. she trotted out into the hallway toward the tall, shiny mirror. Right next to the mirror stood a large, heavy study chair with wooden legs. Mittens walked slowly, looking carefully at every inch of the floor.

## Page 10
Suddenly, she saw a tiny flash of bright pink! She hurried over to the study chair and peeked behind one of its thick legs. There it was! Her beautiful ribbon was caught on a small wooden notch near the bottom of the chair leg.

## Page 11
Mittens gently unhooked the ribbon with her teeth. She felt very proud of herself. “I found it because I stopped to think and remember,” she purred. She realized that running around in circles wasn't nearly as good as using her clever brain.

Mittens walked back to the mirror and carefully tied the ribbon around her neck into a perfect bow. She looked at her reflection and gave her whiskers a final groom. Now that her favorite ribbon was back, Mittens was ready to start a brand new day!
